Cheri Byrd, also known as Zephyra, was the true main villainess of "The Witch in the Wardrobe," the antepenultimate episode of Bones' fifth season (airdate May 6, 2010).
Cheri Byrd was a witch who went by the name Zephyra, and she was a member of the Circle of Moonwick Coven, a group of white witches. However, Zephyra turned heel when she began using black magic for profit (among other reasons), with one offense including placing a curse on the ex-wife of a man named Murray Hudler—who paid the villainess to do so. She also used her evil magic to place a curse on a real estate developer named Mario Trivisonno, who made attempts to buy Cheri's land, only for her to turn him down. As part of her ritual, the callous witch used the bones of a dead cat, and she also robbed the grave of 17th century witch Emily Quimby, as she planned to use the remains to increase her twisted power.
Due to Zephrya's nefarious deeds and intentions, she was ex-communicated from the coven. Furthermore, at some point before the episode's events, Ember aka Mary Harden Trent (Emily Quimby's descendant), Rowan (the Circle of Moonwick Coven's High Priestess), and the rest of the coven performed a ritual to prevent Zephyra's darkness from spreading. Their efforts were only met with anger from the greedy woman, who cursed at them continuously. Rye flour was used in the ceremony, but it contained a fungus that (when inhaled) causes hallucinations similar to those brought about by lysergic acid diethylamide. Subsequently, the coven hallucinated and became fearful of Zephyra—resulting in Ember, Rowan, and the other witches stabbing the villainess to death.
