Veronica Rivers (Claudette Nevins; 1937-2020) is the main villainess from Police Squad!'s sixth and final episode, "Testimony of Evil (Dead Men Don't Laugh)" (airdate July 8, 1982). She is the owner of Mr. V's, a local nightclub.
As the episode reveals, Veronica uses her nightclub as a front for her drug smuggling business, working alongside struggling comedian Joey Calders and a drug runner known simply as The Frenchman. In the beginning of the episode, Veronica called Joey to her office, as she had suspected that he was stealing money from her, while also aware of Joey being an informant. After Vic (Veronica's henchman) leaves, the evil Veronica drugs Joey's drink and proposes a toast to his health, after which Joey succumbs to the drugging while driving.
After Police Squad took the case, Frank Drebin went undercover as a comedian applying for Joey's position, with Veronica hiring Frank shortly afterwards. Once Frank learns about the latest drop happening at the club, he and Ed Hockin return to the club looking for The Frenchman, with Frank searching while he performs for the audience. After seeing a waitress showing the drugs to Veronica, Frank removes the disguise and reveals the waitress as The Frenchman, after which Veronica and Vic attempted to escape. Ed thwarted the duo's attempt, and later arrested Veronica for Joey's murder and other crimes.
