Valerie McGlynn (Nicky Whelan) was the main villainess from the 2021 Lifetime film, You're Not Safe Here (alternately titled, The Girl in the Window; airdate July 31, 2021).
Plot[]
Valerie McGlynn was a doctor and the wife of surgeon William McGlynn, though their backstory revealed that the couple had made many attempts to become pregnant, succeeding once after many failed attempts. However, Valerie suffered a miscarriage and was informed that she would be unable to have a full-term pregnancy. In addition, it was also revealed that William had an addiction to painkillers, which resulted in a botched surgery that took the life of a young boy, leading to a malpractice suit.
Because of William's legal issues, the couple was turned down by various adoption agencies; all the while, the couple discovered main protagonist Ava, who crashed her car as she was on her way to her parents' home. Upon seeing that Ava was pregnant, Valerie turned heel and planned to take Ava's unborn baby for herself, with William going along with his wife's wicked scheme. The couple took in Ava and tended to her, though afterwards, the couple kept Ava in the house with a claim that the phones were down and that Ava had no way to contact anyone.
Valerie continued to befriend Ava, who became suspicious after hearing and seeing William on his cellphone, and it was later on that Valerie picked up Ava and took her back to the house, doing so just as Ava was planning her getaway. Ava's 2nd attempt late one night was interrupted by her water breaking, after which Valerie took Ava back inside so she could give birth. However, on the following day, Ava was informed by Valerie and William that she lost her baby, though Ava was insistent that the couple was lying.
While William revealed his and Valerie's past attempts to become parents to Ava, cries were heard by Ava, who rushed back to the house to reach her baby. Upon entering, she spotted Valerie inside holding Ava's baby, with Valerie attempting to claim that it "wasn't what she thought" before Ava was chloroformed by William. Afterwards, Valerie revealed her villainous plot to Ava, while adding that Ava wouldn't have been a good mother to her daughter and voicing her desire to have a child of her own. The villainess forced medication into Ava, who was later informed by William about how Valerie saved him from his past addiction, using that as a reason to become a cohort in Valerie's evil plans.
However, Valerie spotted William's conversation with Ava and scolded him for (in her mind) letting Ava get to him. William voiced his assurance that he was on his wife's side, leading to the couple making love as Ava overheard. Ava managed to convince William to free her of her shackles, and she used the opportunity to drug William while attempting to regain her daughter.
At that moment, the evil Valerie appeared not only with Ava's daughter, but with a gun pointed at Ava, and afterwards, the villainess informed Ava that they could have killed her upon finding her, but they decided to take her in first, attempting to convince Ava of Valerie's apparent "kindness." Valerie offered Ava a chance to get away unbridled while she had Ava's daughter as her very own, but after hearing a knock at their door, Valerie and William tied up Ava and went to answer the door, encountering Lilla (Ava's sister) and Shane (Ava's abusive boyfriend, as well as the father of Ava's daughter).
The couple stated that they hadn't seen Ava in response to Lilla and Shane's questions about her, though Ava's screams drove the pair back to the house. Valerie fired shots at Lilla, who rescued both Ava and her infant niece from the house, leading to Valerie pursuing the sisters to a wooded area. Upon finding them, Valerie ordered Ava to give up "her" baby, firing a warning shot as part of her threat. Ava tossed the blanket to Valerie, who was shocked to see it was empty before the sisters subdued and disarmed the villainess. After Ava received the gun from Lilla and held Valerie at gunpoint, Valerie heard the cries of Ava's daughter, while vowing to make Ava pay for keeping her from becoming a mother. Valerie's attempt to retrieve the baby was permanently stopped by Ava, who shot the villainess to death and regained her daughter, who she named Hope.
