Sareena Seasquid (Cassidy Naber) is a character in Barbie: Mermaid Power. An inhabitant of Pacifica who is chosen for the games to determine the next Power Keeper, she serves as a minor secondary antagonist and an avid supporter of Talleigha Fishtail, but when she awakens as a Water mermaid, she begins to change her mind about Talleigha after the latter's super-competitive attitude opens her eyes.
Appearance[]
Sareena's skin is colored seaweed green, while her hair, tail, and top are all forest green, with the tail gradient to brown and the top having gold trim sewn around its hem and emblazoned with a silver star on the front of her bodice. Her hair is styled in waves around her head, and streaked through with brown stripes. Her eyes are a deep azure, while her lip color is a bright red. On her left arm near her shoulder is an unfamiliar tattoo, seemingly resembling ocean waves. A sash made from leaves and berries is worn as a belt around her tail. When she awakens as a Water mermaid, she gains a tiara highlighted by a gold seashell atop her head.
Personality[]
Sareena is Talleigha's closest supporter in Pacifica, always seeming to agree with her and openly idolizing her, like many other merpeople. When the Barbies and the Roberts sisters arrive in Pacifica, she is just as reluctant to trust them as Talleigha and Finn are. When she partners with Talleigha in the Power-Off, she seems eager to please her idol and convinced to relish in tormenting Malibu and Brooklyn while taking advantage of their inexperience. However, later on, she proves that she has morals, because, during the games the next day, after seeing for herself the extreme lengths Talleigha will go to for victory and glory, she abandons her and refuses to support her any further.
Story[]
At the Golden Pearl ceremony, Sareena is chosen alongside Talleigha and Finn to be competitors in the Pacifica games that will determine the next Power Keeper. After the arrival of the Barbies and the other Roberts sisters, Sareena is seen swimming alongside Talleigha and Finn and expressing her hope of being an Earth mermaid, since she likes to make plants grow. When Aquaryah, Finn's little sister, expresses her point of view on mermaid powers, Talleigha dismisses her idea, causing Sareena to laugh at her friend's comment to the younger mermaid about never being able to keep up with the "big fish". With that, she and the others head inside the castle for the opening ceremony.
Once inside, the competitors are all welcomed by Coralia, who reveals that two of them have arrived from the surface world to compete in the games. Sareena instantly turns her distrust on Malibu and Brooklyn, stating that humans have done more harm than good for the sea. Malibu and Brooklyn immediately protest that not all humans are as bad as the merpeople think they are, and there's more to humans than meets the eye. After the ceremony is over, Isla assists Malibu and Brooklyn in developing their powers, but is called away by Talleigha and Sareena, who, after Isla leaves, insult the two Barbies again before leaving themselves.
That night, at the mermaid feast, Sareena and Talleigha approach the Barbies again, challenging them to a Power-Off above a deadly whirlpool. Due to their inexperience, our heroines get off to a rough start and are easily overpowered by Sareena when she traps them in an air bubble and is seemingly about to let them get pulled into the whirlpool, but pops the bubble over the cliff in the nick of time. This blatant disregard for sportsmanship sparks defensive emotions in Brooklyn, and as Sareena watches, the human-turned-mermaid awakens her Fire powers as a result. However, Talleigha refuses to be overshadowed by a human, and awakens her own Fire powers in response, for which she is congratulated by Sareena. But when Talleigha's subsequent sneak attack nearly kills Malibu and Stacie awakens Earth powers to save her sister, Brooklyn immediately calls off the Power-Off and swims away with the sisters before any protests can be made. Aquaryah and Finn call Talleigha out on her actions, but Talleigha refuses to listen to reason, and she and Sareena swim off.
At the games the next day, Sareena competes in the Air and Earth challenges, watching as Finn awakens as an Earth merman. During the Water challenge, Sareena partners up with one of the sea animals to aid her in the obstacle course, but not before witnessing Talleigha's mistreatment of a shark and more of her super-competitive attitude. Upon winning the challenge, with Malibu a close second, Sareena awakens as a Water mermaid. Once the race is over, Sareena calls Talleigha out on her recent actions and refuses to support her any longer, to which Talleigha responds by deeming her former friend a traitor along with the others. But then, Finn and another mermaid named Skipper return with the vaquita Viva, needing a Water mermaid to translate Viva's language. Sareena comes forward and reveals that Viva saw Aquaryah get kidnapped. Meanwhile, Malibu, also inexpicably able to understand Viva's language, reveals that her sister Chelsea was also kidnapped, alongside Aquaryah. But then, Coralia reveals that the games must be postponed to deal with an immediate emergency in the form of an island of accumulated trash that is dangerously close to Mermaid Rock. While Malibu and Viva go out to rescue Chelsea and Aquaryah, Sareena goes with the other merpeople to clear up the accumulated trash.
Sareena works in the cleanup effort to help eradicate the trash, but all their powers are ineffective against the mound of pollution before them. When Malibu arrives with a newly transformed Marlo, followed by Chelsea and Aquaryah, Talleigha reveals they need the power of the Power Keeper to finish this task. Malibu, fortunately, reveals that being to be Aquaryah, who, after an inspiring speech from Malibu, steps up and awakens her innate powers as the most powerful of all the merpeople. Malibu encourages all the merpeople to aim their power at Aquaryah, and they all comply, including Sareena. As they all watch, Aquaryah uses her newfound abilities to eradicate the accumulated trash before them.
At the end of the day, Sareena is present at the Mermaid Moon Festival, celebrating with her fellow merpeople at Mermaid Rock.
