Valerie "Val" Rommel (Courtney Halverson) was a villainess from the 2015 horror film Unfriended. She was a high school student and a friend of the main protagonists of the film (Blaire Lily, Mitch Rousel, Jess Felton, Ken Smith, and Adam Sewell). Val was also implied to have had a rivalry with classmate Laura Barns, who committed suicide a year prior to the film's events after being bullied for an embarrassing viral video of her.
The film's events had Blaire inviting Val to a Skype chat with her and her other friends, believing her to be behind the strange messages she was getting from the deceased Laura's Facebook account. As she did, Ken (and later Jess) openly admitted to not liking Val, with Jess concurring that nobody liked Val. During the Skype chat, photos of Val partying and smoking from a bong were posted on Jess's Facebook page, prompting Val to get into an intense argument with Jess while calling her a "trashy little bitch". Jess eventually conceded and managed to delete the photos, only for Val to later get angry when they re-appeared on Adam's page.
It was then that the anonymous user (later revealed as the vengeful spirit of Laura) that had been in the Skype chat revealed that they had posted the photos, irritating Val into angrily threatening the user with violence if they didn't take down the photos of her. Shortly afterwards, Laura sent Val a photo of an IM conversation they had, with Laura asking Val to take down the video if she had made it and apologizing for bullying her in the past. In response, the evil Val viciously challenged Laura to kill herself. Upon seeing the photo, Val got her phone and called the police to report the message as a threat, leaving the Skype call while threatening to "burn Ken alive" if she found out he was behind the message. Later on, after Laura posted the photo of the conversation on her Instagram account, Val reappeared in the chat, standing still with an open bottle of bleach next to her. After Blaire unsuccessfully tried to call Val on her phone, her laptop fell to the floor as the police arrived at Val's house, revealing via police scanner code that Val had seemingly committed suicide, with the group getting a glimpse of Val's corpse before her laptop was turned off. Over the course of the film, however, it was revealed that Laura had actually killed Val, presumably by possessing her and forcing her to drink bleach.
