The Female Villains Wiki
Raymond Brody's Sister

Raymond Brody's vengeful and unnamed sister

Raymond Brody's unnamed sister (Reba McEntire) is the hidden (remorseful) villainess from Reba McEntire's music video, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia (released in 1991). She was the sister of Raymond Brody, a man executed forty years prior to the video's events, having been convicted of murdering his wife after catching her having an affair.

The video began with Raymond's sister (now an elderly woman) speaking with a journalist, who had been told by his editor that she had new information on her brother's case. The woman discussed the case with the reporter, revealing how she had warned her brother that his adulterous wife was "no good" and how she had also had an affair with her fiancee.

But after recounting the official details about the years old case, Raymond Brody's sister revealed what had truly happened: she had killed Raymond's wife and her lover, shooting them to death after walking in on them (presumably out of anger at her for betraying her brother). Raymond arrived soon after (having learned at a bar about his wife's unfaithfulness) and caught his sister red-handed, and ordered her to leave and allow him to take the blame for her crime. Raymond was arrested and hastily convicted of the murder, as the judge of his case had also been sleeping with his wife and wanted the case closed quickly as to protect his indiscretion.

After recounting the whole story to the shocked journalist, the elderly murderer expressed her remorse for having allowed her brother to be hung for her crime and how she believed no one would believe "the grief-stricken sister of a convicted killer". The music video ended with a newspaper headline revealing how Raymond Brody's sister confessed to the forty-year old murders, and she was presumably arrested off-screen as a result.
