Portia Mills

Remorseful villainess Portia Mills

Portia Mills (Miku Graham) is a recurring character and hidden (remorseful) villainess from Seasons One and Two of Instant Star. She was the sister of Darius Mills, the owner of music company G Major, and the ex-wife of pop star turned manager Tommy Quincy. Portia made her debut in episode 1.02, "Come As You Are", where she struck up a friendship with Tommy's latest artist Jude Harrison (the series' main protagonist).

As shown in the Instant Star webisode, "Tommy and Portia", Tommy and Portia's relationship turned sour once Portia learned that Tommy had cheated on her with backup singer Angie Jones. Enraged at Tommy's betrayal, the evil Portia sabotaged his car by cutting the brake lines. But later on, Portia was shocked when Tommy asked her to take him back, him having broken up with Angie on Darius' orders. Portia was also horrified to learn that Angie had driven away in Tommy's car, but kept quiet about what she had done.

As a result of Portia's sabotage, Angie crashed Tommy's car and died, which everyone later came to believe was a suicide as a result of Tommy breaking up with her. When Darius learned about Portia's actions, he used his money and influence to hide the police report from Tommy to prevent his sister's crime from being uncovered. As a result of Angie's death being ruled a suicide, her vengeful brother Hunter began harassing Tommy, holding him responsible for his sister's death.

Portia's villainous reveal came in episode 3.12, "Sympathy For The Devil", after Jude had been attacked and held at knifepoint by Hunter in the previous episode. During the episode, a remorseful Portia went to Darius about the emotional strain Tommy was under, to the point where he was considering moving away, only for Darius to tell her to pull herself together and not destroy everything they had built. But later on, after Tommy discovered the hidden police report and saw that the true cause of Angie's fatal accident was the brake lines being cut, he confronted Darius (with Portia and Jude in attendance) under the belief that he had been behind the saboteur in an effort to kill him for cheating on his sister. But as Tommy began to attack Darius, Portia stopped him and revealed the truth, tearfully procaiming that she hadn't wanted him to leave her and that she hadn't intended to kill Angie. Portia later called the police and turned herself in, telling Darius she wanted to face what she had done before being placed under arrest.
