Samantha Caspary (Serena Scott Thomas) is a redeemed villainess from "There Be Ghosts," episode 7.06 of Rizzoli & Isles (airdate July 11, 2016). She is a noted mystery writer who appeared at Boston PD with insight regarding a double murder at a hospital. Samantha's claim to Vince Korsak and Jane Rizzoli was that a ghost committed the murders, stating that the murders were connected to Hannah Rose, a patient who died at the hospital in 1905, and whose vengeful spirit had been committing murders. Her appearance came to the extreme pleasure of Maura Isles, who was a fan of her work, leading to the two women bonding and also allowing Samantha to help out on the investigation.
However, Samantha's eccentric and friendly demeanor masked her ambitious heel persona, as she had been attempting to gain access to the hospital files for her own use. Befriending Maura and praising her short story (which Maura shared with her while dining at the Dirty Robber) was part of Samantha's villainous plot, and it led to Maura inviting Samantha to join her at the hospital to view the past records. Once there, the evil Samantha took the Hannah Rose files and walked off with them, and shortly afterwards, Maura caught Samantha in the process of cutting out pages of the files with a knife (which Samantha dropped after being exposed), thus revealing Samantha as a self-serving villainess.
Maura was left stunned over Samantha's heel turn, as well as the realization that Samantha was using her for her own personal gain. At episode's end, Samantha encountered Maura at the writer's convention, where she apologized to Maura for deceiving her. She cemented her redemption by informing Maura that she intended to make good on her earlier promise to send Maura's short story to her publisher, and introduced both Maura and Jane to writer Tess Gerritsen (the real-life writer of the Rizzoli & Isles novels that led to the series).
