The villainous Ruth Stone

Ruth Stone (Rita Wilson) is the main villainess from "Sympathy For the Devil," episode 2.13 of Body of Proof (airdate January 17, 2012). She is the mother of Hillary Stone, who was acquitted in the murder of her five-year-old son (Rita's grandson).

After her daughter's acquittal, Ruth received a phone call from Hillary, and she picked her up in her car. She was told by Hillary that she slept with her ex-boyfriend, Craig, solely to attempt to have another baby, and that statement made Rita realize that Hillary killed her son. Rita slammed the brakes of her car, causing Hillary to fly into the dashboard. After Hillary got out of the car, Rita rushed after her, with the chase resulting in Hillary tripping and hitting her head at a construction site. Seeing that Hillary wasn't moving, Rita buried her daughter to give her peace, unaware that she was alive at the time and the burial killed her.

Rita was eventually revealed as Hillary's killer by Megan Hunt, who realized that Hillary had to have taken ride with her killer. Megan and Detective Morris went to Rita's home, where Rita demanded to see her daughter one more time in exchange for a confession. After being shown Hillary's body, Rita tearfully confessed to the murder, showing genuine remorse while doing so, and she was later arrested (off-screen).
