Kaya Grey (Tamara Podemski) is a tragic villainess from "Ghost Dance," episode 2.06 of Cracked (airdate November 4, 2013). She is a waitress at a truck stop, and the sister of the episode's murder victim, Ellen Owens.
Both siblings were members of the First Nations tribe, and in the beginning of the episode, fellow member Lazarus Keefe was found with Ellen's body and was immediately suspected of her murder. Psych Crimes first encountered Kaya at her workplace, which is also where trucker Reg Slater often frequented. Detective Poppy Wisnefski spoke to Kaya regarding Ellen, after seeing Ellen's son, Elijah, pleading with Kaya to allow Ellen's family to be informed about Elijah. Kaya responded that she was Elijah's family, stating that she's Ellen's sister and telling Poppy to leave them alone, only for Poppy to tell Kaya to identify Ellen's body. During an interview regarding Lazarus, Kaya stated that Ellen formed a friendship with Lazarus due to the fact that Ellen was the only one who could speak his native language.
The episode's progression revealed that Reg was Ellen's killer, as he was a serial murderer who had been killing a number of aboriginal young women. Another shocking reveal was provided by Poppy to Aidan Black: Kaya had filed a witness report regarding one of Reg's murders, and when Poppy confronted Kaya and asked why she didn't reveal herself as a witness, Kaya stated that the case wasn't followed up, voicing her bitterness by accusing Poppy of targeting Lazarus in Ellen's murder. In the episode's climax, Reg was confronted by Aidan regarding his murderous spree, and after he left, Reg talked to Kaya and learned that she was the witness. Kaya responded to Reg's indirect and false claims about Lazarus being the killer by stabbing his right hand with a knife. After Reg's scream was heard, Aidan, Poppy, and Detective Elizabeth Liette all held Reg at gunpoint, only for Lazarus to suddenly appear and kill Reg with the knife that Reg was holding.
After Reg's murder, it was revealed that Kaya was the mastermind, as she knew that Reg would be at her diner, and she had Lazarus wait in ambush so he could kill Reg. While Kaya was taken away in handcuffs, Aidan confronted the villainess with the facts, with Kaya defending her actions by stating that she didn't trust him (or the police as a whole) and that she trusted Lazarus. Aidan stated that Kaya should have told them about Reg, and responded to Kaya's question about Reg's outcome by asking if Ellen had been dead if Kaya had come forward. In response to that question, the villainous Kaya stated that Ellen would have been killed anyway, because they don't save people like her.
