Jackie Small

Redeemed villainess Jackie Small

Jackie Small (Pippa Haywood) is a redeemed villainess from "Buried Treasure," the antepenultimate episode of New Tricks' fourth season (airdate 14 May 2007). She is the wife of notorious gangster Bobby Small and the mother of their teenage daughter, Laura Small.

Jackie's backstory revealed that during Christmas time in 2000, she found out that Bobby was having an affair with a 19-year old woman named Tina Murphy, which drove her into a rage. Jackie turned villainous and planned to have Tina killed, and as part of her plan, the scorned villainess approached Louis Johnson, who she assumed was a hitman for Bobby, and paid him £50,000 to kill Tina. Unbeknownst to Jackie, Louis lied about his past as a marksman in the army and took the payment--giving half to Tina and the rest to pay his gambling debts.

Bobby passed away of an illness a month later, and under the belief that Tina was successfully killed, Jackie found religion and believed that Bobby's death was penance for her actions. In the seven years that passed, Jackie's guilt increased, and in the episode's events, while being approached by Gerry Standing and Brian Lane, Jackie confessed to having Tina killed. She refused, however, to name Tina's actual killer, until she was found by Gerry and DSI Sandra Pullman nearly drugged up, but revealing Louis Johnson as the hitman. The investigation saw the pair find Tina at a bar, as she was going under the name Pauline Webster, and it led to the revelation that Louis lied about being a hitman and protected Tina. Jackie saw Tina for the first time and fainted over her being alive, but later on, she expressed gratitude over Tina being alive, stating that it was a miracle. It was revealed that Tina would not press charges, and as for Jackie, she was selling her home to the church.
