Dr. Claire Finn as a villainess in "Firestorm"
Dr. Claire Finn (Penny Johnson Jerald) is a regular character on FOX's The Orville. She is the Chief Medical Officer on the titular ship, as well as the Lieutenant Commander. Claire appeared as a villainess in an alternate reality set in the first season's antepenultimate episode, "Firestorm" (airdate November 16, 2017).
The episode featured Lt. Alara Kitan blaming herself and her pyrophobia for the death of Lt. Harrison Payne, and in an attempt to simulate any other fears she may have, she placed herself inside the holographic simulator--which featured her combating against any an all catastrophes. Among those were a clown and an alligator witnessed by Alara and other members of the crew, which led to Claire deciding to perform brain scans on each member of the crew. Alara was Claire's first patient, and she is immediately restrained by Claire.
As Alara struggled to break free, Claire revealed that she had them quadruple fortified especially for her, due to Alara's super strength. After Claire leaves to gather her tools, Alara--sensing that the doctor has become deranged--saw Nurse Park and asked him to unlock the restraints. During the attempt, Park realizes that Claire changed the code, but before he could wonder why, Claire turned heel and shot Park to death, and gave a sinister smile as she turned towards Alara. The maniacal villainess began her process of killing Alara, planning to cut into her abdomen, only for Alara to break free and subdue Claire.
After Claire is taken to holding, Ed Mercer interrogates her and asks Claire why she killed Park and made her attempt to kill Alara, only for Claire to avoid Ed's questions and respond with riddles. Later on, the evil Claire stated that the crew had no idea what was coming for them, and laughed evilly at the crew, while Alara became horrified at Claire's maniacal rant. Alara's use of the simulator was revealed in the episode's climax, as the real versions of the crew (including Claire) were all shown watching Alara from above.
