Callous villainess Barb Olson
Barb Olson (Kellee Stewart) is the main villainess from "Comrades in Arms," episode 1.03 of The Resident (airdate January 29, 2018). She is a billing consultant hired by Chastain Park Memorial Hospital to conduct cost-cutting measures.
As shown in the episode, Barb's demeanor antagonized several members of the hospital's staff, especially Dr. Nicollette "Nic" Nevin, who expressed her annoyance over Barb's seminar. Barb's heel persona was shown in full form regarding the well being of the hospital's transport worker, Louisa Rodriquez, as she needed an operation after it was revealed that she was diagnosed with a retroperitoneal sarcoma. Upon seeing Louisa and the staff, Barb only expressed concern with Louisa not being insured, as well as the fact that she was an undocumented immigrant (she was from El Salvador), while callously stating that the hospital would not pay for her surgery. The villainess even went to Dr. Randolph Bell and Claire Thorpe with ideas to make Louisa's surgery cost as little as possible.
Considering Louisa a nuisance, the evil Barb called ICE in an attempt to get Louisa out of the hospital, only for Drs. Conrad Hawkins and Devin Pradesh to distract the agents so they could hide Louisa and perform surgery on her, which was successful. As Nic would later learn, the villainous businesswoman ordered an MRI on a patient, Mr. Reynolds, with Nic later entering and revealing that Barb did so without reading his medical history. Nic stopped the MRI and stated that the machine would take out anything metal, and Mr. Reynolds had a metal penial implant, meaning that if the MRI went as Barb planned, the implant would be removed. Barb made attempts to defend her actions, only for Nic to remind her that she's not a doctor and not all tests are safe, and also saying that her actions could get someone killed. Nic later filed a report on Barb's actions, resulting in the villainess being fired from her position.
