Tracey Johnson (Cassandra Sawtell) is the villainess of "Controlled Substance", episode 1.06 of UPtv's Ties That Bind (airdate September 16, 2015). She was a student at Crestview High School and was the head of a study group attended by Rachel McLean, and was described by Rachel as being a "control freak" who took over the study group with her friend Suzie Chang and criticized other members for not being as dedicated to studying as them.
Tracey was amongst the students questioned by detectives Allison McLean (Rachel's mother) and Devin Stewart regarding an incident involving star student Trevor Wynn, who had a breakdown during class and threatened the lives of his classmates. During her interview, Tracey claimed that Trevor wasn't the type to do drugs and that she was surprised by his friendship to track team member Jake Perkins, stating that he wasn't as academically inclined as Trevor.
Later on, Tracey revealed her nature as a bully when Rachel came to her asking to study together for an upcoming test that was cancelled in the wake of the incident, revealing that the group had already met the previous night and insinuating that Rachel wasn't able to have fun due to her mother being a detective. Ultimately, the police investigation revealed that Tracey was also a villainous drug distributor, having been given ADHD medications from AP physics teacher Randall Witherspoon out of a desire to help Tracey academically. Wanting all of her study group to be the best, however, the evil Tracey went to Randell and demanded he give her more medication, threatening to report him if he didn't. Trevor was amongst the people Tracey provided the drugs to, which resulted in Trevor's breakdown, overdose, and subsequent death. In an attempt to cover her tracks, Tracey tried to frame Jake for her crimes by planting a bag of pills in his backpack, which was discovered by Allison and Devin.
Allison began to suspect Tracey's villainous nature when Rachel revealed to her how she and Suzie had taken over their study group, with Allison having already learned that Tracey helped Suzie arrange meetings with Trevor during their study group sessions (as Suzie and Trevor were in a secret relationship). While Suzie was initially suspected of being the distributor, Allison realized Tracey was the true culprit when she realized the distributor's motivation was being the best. Allison and Devin followed Tracey as she went to met Randall in his car during school, serving as his reveal as Tracey's drug provider. Randall eventually confessed to everything under interrogation, revealing that he'd only intended to give the medications to Tracey and how she'd blackmailed him into helping her distribute the drugs to her friends. Randall was arrested for negligent homicide for Trevor's death, and it was revealed that Tracey faced charges for drug distribution and trying to frame Jake.
