Tonya Hardly (Julie Brown) is the villainous protagonist of "Tonya: The Battle of Wounded Knee", which makes up the first half of the 1994 made-for-tv comedy movie "Attack of the 5'2" Women". She is a parody of Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding.
The story opens in 1978 with Tonya ice skating as a child, and stealthily squirting a bottle of baby oil onto the rink so that her similar-aged competitor (implied to be Nancy Cardigan) slips and spins out; a move which ultimately gives the saboteur the crown.
Fifteen years later, in Osaka, Japan, Tonya's mother comments on Nancy Cardigan's good looks while at the same time teasing her daughter for not nabbing a spot in People magazine's 50 most beautiful people. After the skating has finished, Nancy ends up with first place while Tonya only gets seventh.
Back at her home in Portland, Oregon, a jealous Tonya fumes over Nancy's continued popularity and success, prompting her to shoot the tv with her shotgun when a commercial for her rival appears. Her husband, Jeff Googooly, tells her that she can at least look forward to a silver medal in the forthcoming Olympics, but she won't hear of it. He then jokingly asks if she wants him to "break Nancy's legs", which causes Tonya to become immediately enthused. She tells Jeff to hire a hitman, which she plans to pay for by asking her fanclub for money.
Tonya fakes receiving a death threat from "The Figure Skater Terminator" in order to throw suspicion off of herself and hires ex-C.I.A. Sean Heckardt as a bodyguard, who is also tasked with finding the hitman. After screening several candidates, before finally settling on a duo who suggest disabling Nancy with a blow to the knee.
The attack is successfully executed in Detroit, Michigan, but a guilty Sean confesses his involvement and all that happened shortly after. Tonya persuades Jeff to take all responsibility so that she can remain innocent in the eyes of the public and continue to earn her endorsements, but he ends up outing her as the mastermind.
In Lillehammer, Norway, Tonya's tight-fitting panties cause her to mess up during her skate, which prompts her to assault the athletes in the women's locker room in order to procure another, bigger pair. Tonya continues to skate masterfully, but when an onlooking Nancy chokes on a piece of candy, she winds up spitting it out onto the rink, causing her rival to trip and fall.
Having lost out on an Olympic medal, Tonya has plastic surgery to change her race and continues to skate as "Debbie Kawasaki" from Hawaii, with aspirations of skating in the 1998 Winter Olympics.
