Scarlett Marquesa (Patty Handbelt) was a hidden villainess from "Scarlett Fever," episode 1.15 of The Mentalist (airdate February 17, 2009). She was the chairwoman of the women's committee at her local country club, as well as the wife of wealthy real estate developer Victor Marquesa.
Scarlett also sold her own handmade jewelry as a side job, but during the economic downturn, she resorted to selling drugs--mainiy prescription pills. She bought the drugs from "Digger," a local dealer, and began selling them herself for her own profit. Scarlett's villainous dealings ended up being connected to the death of 16-year-old Rachel Prentiss, as one of her customers was the mother of a friend of Rachel's. Rachel took the pills herself and ended up killed in a car accident due to an overdose; all the while, the evil Scarlett continued her business, and covered up her drug selling to keep up appearances.
In the beginning of the episode, Scarlett's drink was poisoned by Heather Prentiss, who blamed Scarlett for her daughter's death and swore revenge, at another one of Scarlett's parties. Scarlett consumed the poison while in her bathroom, and began succumbing to the effects while falling over the gates, killing Scarlett instantly.
