Rey (Tessa James) is a hidden villainess from The Rookie's pilot episode (airdate October 16, 2018). She is the wife of Carlo, and the episode's events had rookie Officer John Nolan (the serles' lead protagonist) and his training officer, Talia Bishop, reporting to the home regarding a domestic dispute.
It was assumed that Carlo was the aggressor due to his massive size, though Carlo informed Nolan that Rey has a habit of being aggressive towards him. Meanwhile, Rey stated to Bishop that Carlo isn't there for her emotionally and that she pushes his buttons to "rile him up." However, when Bishop and Nolan returned to the house regarding another incident, the truth was revealed: Rey was the true abuser.
As shown in the episode, the evil Rey attacked Carlo with a knife and was continuously stabbing him while on top of him, all the while, Carlo attempted to pull his psychotic wife off of him. The couple was separated, but Nolan's attempts to save Carlo were too late; Carlo fatally succumbed to his injuries. The villainess called out her husband's name in an attempt to feign shock over her actions, and she was handcuffed and arrested by Bishop. Nolan expressed guilt over not seeing that Rey was the actual abuser, with the indication that Rey had been abusing Carlo for a long period of time and Carlo was ashamed to come forward.
