Obistin (Lady Obsidian) was a magic powered evil demon serving on the Demon God’s inner council. She is sent to kill the re-emerged last remaining cultivator, who is prophesized to become powerful enough to finally end demon dominance over earth. Appeared in Chinese manhua The Last Cultivator (妹子、魔法与修仙者) issues 13, 18, & 22-26.
Series Backstory[]
5000 years ago, the Demon God led the army to battle the cultivators and destroyed all the sects of the cultivation world. Magicians, Knights, and Healers started to appear to defend against the demons - it became a world of magic. 5000 years later, a bolt of heavenly lightning suddenly awakened a dormant cultivator Zhong Tianshun. He is now the only cultivator in the world. To destroy the Demon God, Tianshun needs to build his cultivation again by accumulating spirit stones. He kills evil demons he comes across to collect sprit stone bounty for their bodies, demon cores, or even their gear/clothes. Tianshun travels with a sprite named Little Fox and a powerful spirit animal dragon named You Long.
Story[]
Obistin was a 5th level demon beast that served on the Demon God’s council. She traveled to the earth realm when her 4th level demon underling Gargoyle (whom she rode like a horse) does not return to the demon realm. She finds evidence of his murder and senses the spiritual energy of a cultivator (not been seen in thousands of years). Obistin is ordered to find and kill this unknown cultivator (Tianshun) to prevent the prophesy that a cultivator will kill the Demon God. With her powerful telekinesis powers (primarily rock control) and demon magic, Obistin is ready to kill.
Tracking the cultivator, Obistin comes across an evil magic user named Jenny bound with rope in the forest. Jenny was defeated just minutes ago by Tianshun and left to free herself. Tianshun allowed her to live if she delivered him 999,999 spiritual stones. Obistin interrogates Jenny as to the whereabouts of the cultivator. Dismayed that this cultivator allowed an enemy to live, Obistin callously drops a giant boulder on the helpless Jenny, killing her.
Obistin then encounters Tianshun’s traveling companion Little Fox wandering in the forest. Sensing cultivation energy, Obistin believes Little Fox is the cultivator she seeks. Little Fox defends herself but is easily outmatched by Obistin. Obistin taunts Little Fox’s weakness and is about the kill her with a giant spiked pillar of rock. Litle Fox conjures an ‘inner desire’ spell, which entrances Obistin in a fantasy. Obistin is love with the Demon God (unrequited) and finds herself in the palace throne room with him. The Deon God demands she give into her desires, and they join by love ceremony immediately. The chaste Obistin has been saving herself for him but is embarrassed/nervous about the speed this sexual advance. Obistin snaps out of the lovesick trance by stabbing herself with a small dagger (pain breaks the spell) and resumes her goal to kill Little Fox. Little Fox screams for Tianshun’s help.
Tianshun arrives, easily destroying Obistin’s spiked pillar. Obistin is taken aback but goes on the attack, sending a wave of rock shards at him. She celebrates her victory before seeing that Tianshun is completely unharmed. Tianshun blasts her with an energy beam that goes right through her. Frightened and overwhelmed by his unexpected power, Obistin psyches herself up for a finishing attack. She puts all her remaining power into pulling a meteor from space, sending it at Tianshun. Unimpressed by this 5th tier demon thinking she has the power to harm him. Tianshun simply has the dragon You Long swallow the meteor. Obistin falls to her knees, having completely lost.
Tianshun attempts to recover the money owed to him by Jenny from Obistin. Being a demon, she has no money and Tianshun says that is the wrong answer. He uses cultivation to skillfully to strip Obistin’s gear/outfit so he can sell it, leaving Obistin completely naked. Obistin pleads she is only meant for the Demon King. Tianshun cares nothing for that, stating he will kill all her demon kind. Walking way, Tianshun brings heavenly thunder down on Obistin, disinigrating her on the spot. All that is left is a demon core crystal containing her essence. Tianshun feeds the core to dragon You Long as a reward for a job well done.
