Neve Carmichael (Melanie Caines) is a minor villainess from "The Special Detective", episode 2.10 of Republic of Doyle (airdate March 16, 2011). She was the notoriously ruthless lawyer for MMA fighter Vince Bragg, who had been arrested after confessing to killing fellow MMA fighter turned businessman Murray Peckford, claiming he had shot him when he caught him trying to steal from the gym he worked at.
But in actuality, Murray had been killed by Clint Wallace, the co-owner of Murray's gym who killed him when Murray learned that he was using the gym as a front to sell steroids. Clint later paid Vince (who was struggling financially) to take the fall for Murray's murder, with Neve serving as his attorney to keep him from revealing the truth.
Neve's first appearance came when she walked in on Jake Doyle and novelist Garrison Steele questioning Vince, Garrison having enlisted Jake's help in investigating the closed case for research in his next book in his new series, The Special Detective (inspired by Jake). Upon entering the room after Vince became angry and flipped the table, she ordered Jake and Garrison to leave and told them to talk to her if they wanted to speak with Vince again. However, Jake left his jacket in the interrogation room with an operating recorder in one of the pockets, which recorded part of Neve's conversation with Vince after he and Garrison left. The conversation had Neve asking who Jake and Garrison were and threatening Vince to "stick to the story" or she would let "the boss" (Clint) know about it when she met with him that day.
Garrison and Jake later confronted Neve while she was dining with Clint, with Garrison hinting to Neve that he suspected she was in on the conspiracy to frame Vince for Murray's murder. Despite this, Clint (and by extension, Neve) claimed that they were looking out for Vince out of pity, claiming that Murray would've wanted them to protect Vince if his killing Murray was unintentional. Ultimately, Jake and Garrison uncovered Clint's drug operation and how he'd killed Murray to cover it, and while her fate was not explicitly stated, it can be assumed that Neve was arrested off-screen for her collusion with Clint.
