Misa Katayama (Jun Karasawa) was a villainess from "A Mysterious Man - Overly Strict with Regulations", episode 15.33 of Case Closed (airdate December 4, 2006). She was a club hostess and a neighbor of Iwao Iwata. Iwao's penchant for being strict on rules (particularly those involving when to leave garbage out to be picked up) resulted in him forming a tense relationship with Misa, as she frequently left her garbage out at night against policy.

Soon after Conan and his friends were introduced to Iwao by classmate Chiharu Matsubara, Misa was found bludgeoned to death and Iwao was arrested for the murder. Under interrogation, Iwao claimed that he had gotten into another argument with Misa over leaving her garbage out at night, with Misa responding by attacking him with a pipe and resulting in Iwao shoving her back in self-defense, causing her to fatally strike her head on a light pole. While Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya was initially adamant that Iwao was telling the truth, the police and Conan's investigation revealed the truth: Iwao had intentionally killed Misa, and staged the scene to look like she attacked him.

Misa's backstory revealed her as a villainous accomplice, as she worked alongside con artist Eiji Fujikura in his schemes. One such scheme had the villainous duo scamming elderly couple Mr. and Mrs. Yasaka, with the evil Misa introducing Eiji to the unsuspecting couple. Eiji and Misa's scam led to the Yasakas losing their home and business, and the couple subsequently killed themselves. At the time, Iwao was a student who the Yasakas took on as an intern and helped financially, even donating blood to him after he was badly injured in a motorcycle accident. While Eiji ended up arrested and imprisoned for his crimes, Iwoa was dismayed to learn that Misa could not be charged with her role in the scam due to only introducing Eiji to his benefactors.

Sometime later, Iwoa re-encountered Misa as she was being confronted by her neighbors on her trash habits, with his rage against her being refueled at seeing she was still a callous and self-centered woman. It was then that Iwoa began plotting to kill Misa, moving into the apartment complex across from hers and setting fire to one of her garbage bags to begin his "transformation" into a man strict against those breaking rules. One night, after waiting for the right opportunity to strike, Iwoa attacked and killed Misa as she came out to leave her garbage for pick-up, bludgeoning her head against the light pole and planting her fingerprints on the pipe to stage the murder as self-defense.
