Miriam Bancroft
Miriam Bancroft (Kristin Lehman) is a villainess from season 1 of the TV series Altered Carbon.
She is an elite member of society, as is her husband, Laurens Bancroft. Their wealth has allowed them the luxury of near immortality, as they can just resleeve their consciousness into younger bodies as time goes on. The couple love each other very much, but are both known to have affairs fairly often. Miriam is shown doing this with protagonist Takeshi Kovacs earlier in the season.
One day at her mansion, Miriam was visited by a prostitute called Lizzie Elliot, who wanted to speak to her husband (who was away at the time). Lizzie worked at a brothel that Laurens visited and claimed that she was pregnant with his child. Miriam became extremely angry at the news, so she beat Lizzie close to death and caused her to miscarry with repeated kicks to the stomach. Miriam then ordered the family attorney to have Lizzie sent to Reileen Kawahara's Wei Clinic, where Lizzie is mentally tortured to the point that she loses her mind and can't speak about what Miriam did to her.
Lizzie's mind is nursed back to health throughout the season and in the final episode she is able to tell everyone about what happened to her. Miriam is arrested, along with her husband (for killing a prostitute at Reileen's Head In The Clouds brothel).
