Mary Brown (Alycia Debnam-Carey) is the main protagonist and plot-twist villainess from the 2014 film, The Devil's Hand (alternately titled, Where the Devil Hides).

Backstory and Events[]

Mary was born on June 6, 1994 to Susan and Jacob Brown; in fact, Mary was one of six girls born on that exact date. The girls' births began a prophecy that one of them would become the "Devil's Hand," an emissary of Satan, on her 18th birthday. This prompted Catherine, one of the mothers, to kill her daughter after birth, leaving Mary as one of five girls remaining.

Mary had suffered from potentially deadly seizures, which lead the fanatical Elder Beacon to suspect her as the one who was on her way to becoming the Devil's Hand. Throughout the community, each of the girls were killed one by one, which led to Mary leaving with Trevor, her boyfriend, and heading to a home inhabited by Susan, who Mary had believed to be deceased.

Demonic Mary

Mary as the Devil's Hand

Mary was led to believe that Elder Beacon was behind the murders, and in the film's climax, she was hospitalized after suffering a seizure. With just minutes left until her 18th birthday, Mary was visited by Susan, who later revealed herself as the true killer, with one of her victims being Mary's stepmother, Rebekah. Susan stated to Mary that she killed the other girls to change the prophecy and make sure that Mary becomes stronger as a demonic emissary, and it was after this that Susan reminded Mary that she had a visitor--in the form of Trevor.

After Trevor entered the room, Mary romantically embraced her boyfriend, leading to a kiss as the clock struck midnight, making Mary 18 years of age. As soon as the embrace ended, Mary turned heel and killed Trevor by snapping his neck, while her evil mother watched with pride. The villainess embraced her new demonic powers, and after killing Trevor, the evil Mary entered the church and murdered all of the deacons, while walking closer to Elder Beacon and being covered in her victim's blood. The film ends under the impression that Elder Beacon was also killed by Mary.
