Marion Reader (Mary Pat Gleason) is the main villainess from "Framed," episode 1.09 of Motive (airdate April 4, 2013). She is a saleswoman and the mother of Owen Reader, who lives with her.

Marion's job selling aluminum siding on the phone keeps things afloat financially, and in her spare time, she paints her pet cat, Mathias, on various old paintings. One such painting is found hanging at a coffee shop by gallery employee Julia Conrad, and she recognizes the landscape as a missing masterpiece that was lost during the Nazi occupation of Poland on September 1, 1939. Julia later paid Marion $100 for the painting, while hiding the truth about the landscape's worth, as well as her own plans to collect $1 million for returning it to the original owners.

Marion later visited Julia at her home, as she expected Julia to place her painting in the gallery. Instead, Julia falsely claimed that galleries wouldn't want such paintings, and it was after this point that Marion noticed that Julia was in the process of removing Mathias from the painting. Marion voiced her indignation, but she ended up ejected by Julia, who also told her to keep Owen away from her. After realizing the true history and worth of the painting, as well as Julia's plans, Marion confronted Julia while she was jogging, and demanded a portion of whatever money Julia was planning on getting for the painting. She had taken Owen's antique gun (a pre-WWI Webley Mk) with her in the confrontation, and when Julia refused, the evil Marion shot and killed Julia.

The villainess returned home and was informed by Owen that he called the police regarding the gun, but it was after he informed Marion about Julia's death that he realized his mother had killed her, as she mentioned the bullets to him. Owen went to Detective Angie Flynn and confessed to the murder to protect Marion, and stuck to the confession even after it was proven that he wasn't the killer. However, the episode's climax saw Angie and fellow Detective Oscar Vega at the Reader household, where Angie revealed Marion as the killer, as she had a burn on her hand that gave her away. Despite Owen's protest, Marion confessed to killing Julia after uncovering her deception regarding the painting, and she was arrested for the murder; all the while, Marion told Owen that he was a good son after Owen assured her fears that he would hate her by telling Marion that he loved her.
