Leah Kilbourne is the main antagonist of the sport drama movie Flying (1986).
She is played by Renee Deighton (née Murphy).
Biography[]
Leah is first seen practicing gymnastic with the teams "The Buffalo Flyers" in their gym.
Then, bullying Robin, alongside her best friend, Stacy because she gave a towel to Mark and smiled at him. After school, she was seen leaving school with Mark in his fancy car.
The next day, in the cafeteria, she, Stacy and Mark were having fun playing with the jukebox while Robin was sitting alone at lunch and when they saw one of the gymnasts sitting with her, they called her to sit with them, denying Robin to have a friend in the team.
Later that day, while practicing in the gym, a gymnast named Carly Simmons suggested to their coach, Jean Stoller, to give a shot to Robin about entering in the team. Mrs. Stoller suggested to Robin to show some bars skills but Robin, nervous, fell from the bars and hurt her knee causing to Leah and Stacy laughing and say "So pathetic!".
The next day, Leah was doing some bars exercise with the coach who was scolding her to not showing emotion. Then, Robin appeared in a gymnastic suit, talking about wanting to repeat the exercise when Leah blocked her path but the coach ordered her to get off and Robin showed her potential and became part of the team.
The next day, in the locker room, she nastily tells Robin that, to her, she will never be part of the "Buffalo Flyers". Robin tries to tell her that she doesn't want war between them, but she says they're already on. Then, she is seen, sitting next to Stacy, Mrs. Stoller telling to all the gymnasts that there will be a competition so they will be studied to clarify who will participate at it.
Then, Leah is seen jealously watching Robini practice with Mark, while Carly jockling asks that she doesn't like a bit of competition. When Stacy arrives, they both see Robin flirting with Mark and decide to play a revenge prank on her.
They put a fake invitation in her locker making her believe that Mark invited her to a party with the theme, "Funky Night", when in fact it was a fancy dinner at the Sanderson mansion among their wealthy families.
When Robin arrives at the party and finds out the truth, they laugh at her by telling her that she is a crasher and when she runs away in embarrassment, they laugh at her, stopping Mark who was trying to help her and saying that she is absolutely pathetic.
Then, she is seen at the drive-in, along with Stacy mocking Robin who was trying to get Tommy's attention by calling her a monkey and asking if she trained with them at the zoo.
When Robin confronts her, she replies that she and Stacy are better than her and can even beat her with their eyes closed and that she is just a joke. When Robin replies that she is crazy, the two start a gymnastics-off but Robin wins by managing to do a leap that also manages to overtake a parked car, leaving Leah surprised.
But when Mrs. Stoller intervenes, she and Stacy lie, saying it was all Robin's idea and threatening her that they'll beat her next time. Afterwards, they puncture the tire of Robin's mop, leaving her stranded and laughing at her out of Mark's car while they return home.
Later, in the cafeteria, Leah and Stacy, in line for lunch behind Robin, try to irritate her by saying that Tommy is really cute today and Stacy sprinkles ketchup on Robin's hand, leaving her laughing. Not realizing that Tommy placed milk cartridges on the chairs where they were about to sit, humiliating them in front of everyone and telling her that he thought pussie liked milk.
Later that day, Mrs. Stoller announces that Leah, pleased with the nomination, Tami, and Robin will be attending Nationals, much to Stacy's disappointment.
During Nationals preparations, Leah is seen glaring at Robin and gossiping about her to Stacy.
On the day of the competition, Robin, Leah and Tami are watching the other gymnasts and Robin says that they are really good, Leah tries to appear bold but she understands that she is just as nervous as her.
During the competition, Rhonda Hamilton loses due to a fall and therefore Robin is second to Leah. Leah teases Robin that the victory is now hers, she replies that it's not the right way to win but she asks her what she knows about winning, laughing off with Stacy.
When it's Robin's turn for the floor routine. Thanks to the words of her friends Roy and Fred, she manages to make a great impression while also leaving Leah, Stacy and Mark impressed, winning the competition and Leah is devastated about it.
While Robin is savoring the victory, Leah, along with Mark, approaches her and tells her that it looks like she won but Robin only says that she crossed Niagara Falls, leaving them stunned.
Personality[]
Leah is the typical "Primadonna", confident in her abilities, arrogant and proud. This fact of always feeling like the best on her team gives her permission to do what she wants in the team, even bullying those who are assistants in the team, like Robin. It seems like she comes from a wealthy family, so she might as well be spoiled.

- She is a big eater, she eats a lot and never gains weights.
- Leah's actress, Renée Murphy Deighton, was crowned Miss Teen Toronto 1984 and Miss Toronto 1990.
- When Leah practices gymnastic, the stunt-double of Mrs. Deighton was the canadian gymnast, Jessica Tudos.
- Leah is very reminiscent of another Keanu Reeves's movie villain, Eddie Martell, the Washington Sentinels quarterback in the movie, "The Replecementes" (2000). Both are primadonnas, arrogant, bullies, rich and believe that they can do whatever they want because they feel superior.
