Kate Daley (Heather McComb) is the villainess of "Gray Murders", episode 4.14 of Crossing Jordan (airdate March 13, 2005). She was a photographer and the fiancee of Robert Castelli, who was found dead in the Logan Airport from an apparent heroin overdose along with baggage handler Helen Sivley. When questioned by detective Woody Hoyt, Kate was heartbroken and claimed that Robert had past drug problems that she'd thought he'd worked past.
Later on, though, it was revealed that Robert and Helen's overdoses were caused by heroin hidden within the clothes in his suitcase, with Robert having been wearing a sweater laced with the drug. Upon further inspection of the sweater, it was determined that silver halide was used to put heroin into the clothing, indicating that someone with connections to photography was responsible.
This served as the reveal that Kate was the culprit and had sent Robert to pick up the shipment from the airport. Woody went to Kate's apartment with a warrant, with one of the searching officers finding a canister of chromamatte that Kate used in her smuggling operation. Kate initially tried to deny responsibility, but ultimately confessed when Woody told her forensics would connect her to the crime, tearfully proclaiming that she had warned Robert not to open the suitcases. Woody, however, questioned the sincerity of Kate's dismay due to her earlier manipulations as he placed her under arrest. Woody later revealed that Kate was a part of a larger drug smuggling ring, and that she was giving up names of other people involved in the scheme.
