Karen Chavera (Rachel Roberts) was the main villainess from "CSI Unplugged," episode 12.16 of CSI (airdate February 29, 2012). She was a medium and a magic show performer, who had T.C. Riordan as her customer.
It was five years prior to the events that T.C.'s wife, Natalie, accidentally drowned when she went into their pool to retrieve their wedding ring--which she threw in the pool after the couple fought. T.C. was accused of murdering his wife, namely by Natalie's mother, Patricia Lydecker, but it was one of Karen's readings that convinced Patricia that T.C. was innocent, as she channeled Natalie's spirit and stated that T.C. had nothing to do with her death.
Karen had been frequented by not only T.C. and Patricia, but also Shelby Buress (the nanny for T.C. and Natalie's son, Harper), with one instant including a seance. However, Karen became obsessed with the Riordans to the point where she truly believed she was Natalie, and it was in her delusional demeanor that she believed that T.C. had an affair with Shelby. With the belief embedded in her mind, Karen stabbed Shelby to death, and paid her fellow magic show performer, Trevor Raymond, to help her move Shelby's body to T.C.'s house, using his history as a murder suspect to frame him. The deranged villainess also drugged Harper with ketamine and abducted him as part of her revenge plot as "Natalie," and later on, the evil Karen shot Trevor to death to tie up loose ends.
Karen's obsession was shown during her interview conducted by Jim Brass, as she briefly referred to T.C. as her husband when discussing their sessions. Patricia was suspected of the abduction at first, but after Karen was revealed as the one who sent the wire transfer to Trevor, Nick Stokes and Sara Sidle went to Karen's home and found various photos of the couple, along with Harper's medication and Natalie's things, which revealed Karen as the villainous mastermind. After finding Harper alive and well, Nick phoned D.B. Russell regarding Karen, only for D.B. to reveal that he had found Karen dead in her pool, having committed suicide by drowning.
