Kanako Fujishima (Nana Komatsu) is the titular villainess of the 2014 suspense film The World Of Kanako, which is an adaptation of the novel Endless Thirst.

Kanako is the daughter of Akikazu Fujishima, a detective. Akikazu learns that his wife, Kiriko, is being unfaithful, and angrily rams her car, which results in him losing his family and job. He moves away and becomes an alcoholic, but Kiriko contacts Akikazu many years later to inform him that Kanako has mysteriously disappeared. Akikazu investigates his daughter's disappearance with occasional assistance from Detective Asai, and discovers that Kanako had become involved in organized crime through her gangster friend Yasuhiro Matsunaga who was enamored with Kanako, and suspects that her disappearance is connected to her using drugs. He later learns that Kanako was not only not using drugs, but was not the kindhearted person she presented herself as; she was a psychopath who manipulated everyone around her into ruining their lives or doing terrible things for her own entertainment.

Biography[]

In middle school, Kanako had become quite popular due to her beauty and (faked) kindness. She dated a boy named Seiji Ogata but sold him into a sex trafficking ring run by the yakuza, where he was repeatedly raped by old men. Seiji later committed suicide because of the trauma, much to Kanako's amusement.

Shortly before Kanako's disappearance, a student who was being bullied named Sigon confesses his love to Kanako, as she is the only student who doesn't bully him, and she agrees to date him. Kanako wins Sigon's trust by sending gangsters to assault Sigon's bullies. Sigon is excited, as he wants Kanako to feel for him the same way she felt for Seiji, and attends a party with her. At the party, Kanako drugs Sigon and sells him to the trafficking ring to be raped. Sigon escapes and plans to kill Kanako in revenge, even going so far as to torture one of the gangster girls until she gives Kanako's location. Sigon confronts Kanako but hesitates when she embraces him, allowing a hooded accomplice of Kanako (presumably Yasuhiro) to fatally stab Sigon to cover up Kanako's crimes.

Akikazu harasses and even assaults a number of Kanako's associates to get information as to her location, even going to her school and questioning Kanako's homeroom teacher Rie Azuma. He also questions two of Kanako's friends Emi Morishita and Tomoko Nagano, but doesn't get any useful information. Tomoko goes to the police after her interrogation by Akikazu, but is murdered by Detective Aikawa, who is part of a corrupt division of the police department that is on the yakuza's payroll and has been profiting from the trafficking ring that Kanako is part of. Realizing that Tomoko was likely murdered because she and Emi knew something, Akikazu returns to assault Emi until she gives answers. Emi reveals that Kanako ruined Tomoko's life by getting her addicted to drugs and pimping her to the prostitution ring. Emi gives Akikazu the key to Kanako's locker, as she no longer trusts the police after Tomoko's murder. In Kanako's locker, Akikazu discovers that she was collecting photographic evidence of her and the yakuza's clients from the prostitution ring, and even recognizes one of his old superiors at the department in one of the photos. Akikazu assaults and interrogates his own former superior, who reveals Kanako's crimes to her father, including the countless murders she's caused, and how many of her classmates were compelled into prostitution and drug abuse by Kanako.

Akikazu asking questions about Kanako causes the yakuza to abduct both him and Yasuhiro. When it is discovered that Akikazu wants to kill his evil daughter and has no idea where she is, they turn their attention to Yasuhiro, who is still brainwashed into worshiping Kanako, and torture him. Yasuhiro reveals that he stole the photos from the yakuza so that Kanako could blackmail the clients for her own amusement. The yakuza gangsters dismember Yasuhiro and give Akikazu the name of Aikawa, so that he can kill him and tie up all their loose ends.

Akikazu goes to Aikawa's house and sexually assaults his wife before taking her hostage. Aikawa confronts Akikazu and kills his wife, before trying to kill Akikazu, but the police, including Detective Asai arrive and kill Aikawa, before Akikazu hits Asai with Aikawa's car and escapes. After reviewing the remainder of the photos that Kanako saved, he recognizes that one of Kanako's sex slaves was Akiko Azuma, the daughter of Rie Azuma, Kanako's homeroom teacher whom he had previously questioned.

Akikazu returns to question Rie again, and a flashback sequence reveals that Kanako had shown Rie the photos of her daughter being raped, and cruelly mocked her about how she (Kanako) manipulated Akiko into becoming a prostitute drug addict. Enraged, Rie stabbed Kanako in the throat with a screwdriver, killing her. Kanako died with an amused expression on her face, and Azuma buried her body. A crazed Akikazu refuses to believe that Kanako has been dead this entire time and demands Rie show him the body, declaring that he will kill Kanako himself if she is still alive. Rie states that she can't find the burial spot because the snow has gotten too thick, but an obsessed Akikazu continues to dig as the film ends.
