Junko Enoshima is the main antagonist of the Danganronpa franchise.
She is a student at Hope's Peak Academy who initially went by the title of the Ultimate Fashionista, a front for her true ultimate talent, the Ultimate Analyst. During her time at the school, she founded the most vile, wicked, and deadly terrorist organization known to man, "Ultimate Despair". Upon recruiting the students of Class 1-A to become her minions in this group, they went on to cause "The Worst, Most Despair-Inducing Incident in the History of Mankind". She also later went on to orchestrate the Killing School Semester in Hope's Peak Academy while the school was sealed up to protect the remaining students from the Tragedy.
However, during the final trial, Junko (who the rest of the students initially believed had died earlier) was discovered by the survivors to be the mastermind of the killing game, and that her supposed death earlier was actually her sister, Mukuro Ikusaba, who was ordered by Junko herself to disguise herself and pass off as her to trick the other students. Here, Junko also reveals that the outside world has fallen into complete and utter despair because of her, which causes the students to fall into despair. Makoto however, refuses to give up hope and uses his hope to restore that of his classmates, giving them all the strength and determination to stand up to Junko along with Makoto. Her plan now having been foiled, Junko decides to execute herself to feel the despair of death. While initially infuriated by Makoto and the survivors winning, she soon grows ecstatic over the idea of finally being able to taste her own despair and proceeds to put herself through every previous execution depicted in the game before finally being crushed to death in After School Lesson.
Unlike most characters in the franchise who revile despair and always seek to find hope wherever it may be, Junko is obsessed with despair to the point of making it her life's goal to bring misery upon the entire world to satisfy her sadomasochistic compulsions.
