Jess Gilchrist (Rita Wilson) is a villainess from "Mournin' Mess," episode 3.10 of Tales From the Crypt (airdate July 31, 1991). She is the spokesperson for the Grateful Homeless Society.
Jess was approached by reporter Dale Sweeney, as he had learned about the disappearance and murders of several homeless people. The encounter later became a sexual one, with Jess leaving after being duped into an interview with Dale. Following the murder of his source, Robert, Dale went to the Grateful Homeless Cemetery to follow up on Robert's earlier tip on weird goings-on at the site.
The episode's climax had Dale hiding in one of the wooden coffins in an underground tunnel passageway, only to see Robert, or what was left of him, inside. He later emerged to see that the underground area was a den for ghouls to dine on the homeless, with the Grateful Homeless Society being revealed as the Grateful Homeless, Outcasts, Unwanteds Layaway Society (or GHOULS for short). The group had been feasting on the homeless, and after they were preparing Dale, Jess entered the area, with Dale begging for her help. Jess turned heel by revealing herself as a ghoul; removing her human mask after commenting that she lied about her earlier claim that she didn't eat meat. The episode ends with the evil Jess closing in on Dale and devouring him.
Trivia[]
- Rita Wilson later played murderess Ruth Stone on Body of Proof.
