Janice Freeman (Anita Barone) is the main villainess from "Vampire Weekend," episode 2.06 of Castle (airdate October 26, 2009). She is the former nanny of the McGinty family who went on to become the second wife of Alan McGinty after the disappearance of his first wife, Elizabeth Dryden McGinty. Alan was so grateful to Janice for supporting him and his family during his time of need that when they married, he took her last name and became Alan Freeman.
As Alan would learn at episode's end, Janice was singlehandedly responsible for Elizabeth's disappearance, as she shot and killed her years ago to take Elizabeth's place in Alan's life. Matthew McGinty --Elizabeth's son and Janice's stepson--had witnessed the murder as a toddler but repressed it. Over the years, however, his memories resurfaced through his graphic sketches until as a college student, Matthew discovered the woman he had been drawing resembled a real life murder victim. Fearing that Matthew would learn the truth about his mother's death, the evil Janice murdered him. She stalked him to a cemetery, where Matthew placed flowers on his biological mother's grave, and then placed an actual stake through his heart. This was done because of Matthew's affinity for the vampiric subculture, but also so Janice could cover her own tracks and pin the murder on his outsider friends.
One of Matthew's friends was werewolf enthusiast Daemon, who Janice shot and killed because Matthew confided in him over his suspicions regarding what happened to his mother, and Daemon was helping him investigate. Janice was exposed as the killer in a set-up by Richard Castle, when both of them walked towards another of Matthew's friends, Morlock, whose insane ramblings actually pinpointed Janice as the murderer. Janice was later arrested (off-screen) for the murders.
