Jane Ambergris, aka Holly May (Joan Severance), is the main villainess from "My Enemy," the antepenultimate episode of The Hitchhiker's fifth season (airdate November 25, 1989).
Jane Ambergris is a famous actress who developed frustration with her surroundings, with the attention of a Jane Ambergris lookalike contest being the last straw for her. One night, she is encountered by one of the lookalikes, Holly May, who entered the contest due to wanting to be famous, leading to a verbal confrontation between the two women. Holly boasted about her resemblance to Jane and that she could do anything that Jane does, only for Jane to respond by pulling out a gun and shooting Holly.
Jane later placed the gun in Holly's hand and portrayed the murder as a suicide, even leaving a note as part of the ruse. After seeing Holly's ID, the evil Jane decided to disguise herself as Holly, starting a fire that created the illusion that Jane committed suicide. Once her car stalls, Jane gets a police escort to take her to Holly's home, but to her shock upon entering, she sees the bodies of Holly's husband, Lou Stillman, and Lou's parents, revealing that Holly murdered them. Jane later hears a radio report on the fire and shooting and returned to the studio, where she was encountered by her agent, Vic, and revealed her encounter with Holly. She attempted to claim that she shot Holly in self-defense after a struggle, and asked Vic if Holly was OK.
In a shocking twist, what Jane thought was Holly was revealed to be a mannequin in one of Jane's stylish dresses, and in addition, Vic showed Jane her suiclde note and asked why she signed it, "Holly." This revealed a shocking truth: Jane and Holly were the same person. As Holly, Jane expressed her indignation to Lou in the beginning of the episode, and before switching to her Jane persona, she shot and killed Lou and his parents. The deranged villainess shot the mannequin believing that it was Holly, and following the reveal of her multiple personality disorder, the fate of Jane/Holly remained unknown.
