Irwana is a rich and ruthless woman, one of the antagonists in Meen vader is een detective, a Dutch (kids) crime/mystery movie. She is portrayed by Rebecca Loos, “a Spanish-born Anglo-Dutch glamour model“ (according to Wikipedia).

[As far as I understand Dutch – so please help!] The evil Irwana wants to buy a strange parrot from Hadewij (the movie’s main villainess) and her henchman, a dangerous scientist. It seems that the parrot is extremely valuable because of some strange powers it has. Hadewij and the rest of the gang capture and imprison the title hero (the “detective”, a Dutch police officer) on a mysterious island, the gang’s secret hideout, but their criminal activities are brought to an end by the detective’s young son and his friends: three kids finally defeat the evil-doers and call the police along with the coast guard. Irwana, for instance, is kept busy in the hideout as the kids let some big spiders escape from their cages for the villainous to deal with. Irwana and the other criminals are eventually arrested and taken to a police boat with their hands cuffed behind their backs. How (and where exactly) Irwana was detained is not shown.

Trivia[]

What is rather rare about Irwana as a character in a movie destined primarily for a young audience is that she is a mother who has her very young daughter with her while pursuing her illegal activities. At the end, the young child stays behind while her mother is (obviously) going to jail, a plot twist rather odd compared to the ‘normal’ happy ending of movies for kids (where mothers with small children ‘normally’ don’t qualify for a villainous role). [Perhaps am I mistaken and Irwana is not the girl’s true mother, so please modify or delete if necessary.]

The camera perspective is also somehow weird (or simply incongruent): As Irwana is led to the coast guard boat, the camera turns to focus on her hands, obviously to show that she is restrained. The only problem is that her business suit covers her forearms completely, so the camera (wo)man should have realized that there is simply nothing to see.

The bonus material on the DVD shows some additional set stills with Irwana/Rebecca Loos in handcuffs.
