Gretchen Mercer (Paget Brewster) is the villainess from Family Guy episode 14.17, "Take a Letter" (airdate April 17, 2016). She was Peter Griffin's former girlfriend, and as Lois learned while working at the post office, he had written a letter to her a week before their wedding day. Concerned, Lois headed to Gretchen's home, where she meets her and asked her about Peter's letter to her. Gretchen relieves Lois by informing her that it was just a random letter from Peter.
However, it was revealed that Gretchen lied about the letter, as she visited Peter at the Griffin home and revealed the letter's true contents: that Peter had doubts about marrying Lois. Gretchen informed Peter that she wanted to marry him, and even threatened to tell Lois that Peter was in love with her before their wedding. Under that pressure, Peter has coffee with Gretchen, and agrees to go with her to a Ray LaMontagne concert. While at the concert, Peter has second thoughts and leaves Gretchen, proclaiming his love for Lois. Gretchen appears to understand, but she later scowls and claims Peter as hers.
Gretchen later texted Peter, saying she was taking care of their "problem". Peter rushed to the post office, where Gretchen is confronting Lois. When he arrives, Gretchen pulled out a gun, intending to kill Lois so she and Peter could be together. She then revealed the true content of the letter to Lois, who appeared to be angered by Peter and leaves, claiming that Gretchen could have him. Gretchen is overjoyed, but Lois soon returned and knocked Gretchen out, having only pretended to storm out as a means of tricking Gretchen into letting her guard down. While Gretchen's fate isn't directly stated, it can be assumed she was arrested for attempting to kill Lois.
