Steerwoman Shelinda (Kei Mizutani) is one of the main antagonist of TV series, "Seijuu Sentai Gingaman", which was a forerunner of the Power Rangers series. She was the second in command to Captain Zahab, giving her a reasonable amount of autonomy within the army and allowing her to act against the Gingaman at anytime despite there being an active general at present. Though cruel, selfish and greedy, she always remained loyal to Zahab and acted in his interest, following his orders even it went against her own instinct, suggesting a close relationship between them, which was shown with Zahab mourning for her death and holding her sword respectfully as he went into the final battle with the Gingaman.
She appears as a white-haired steersman of Balban. Called the mistress of swordsmanship, she was a very powerful enemy of the Gingamen. In addition to her prowess as a swordsman, she can lasso her opponent with energy-whip, swinging them around. She can also fire powerful exploding attack from shell ornaments on both of her wrists. She possesses some magical abilities and is able to create an illusion of Mihau.
Shelinda was mortally wounded in battle against GingaGreen, who defeated her with his Hurricane Gust. She refused to admit defeat, and attempted to strike Hayate. However, she was exploded. Only her sword remained, which was taken back by the Yartots to Zahab. Shelinda was later resurrected, along with Zahab, the other Generals, and several Maijins. She battled GingaGreen again and was destroyed by him once again.
She was dressed in silver thigh high boots that had a shell that covered her knees. Her "outfit" is a silver and pink bra and silver underwear. She had blue gloves a cape, and held a sword.
Trivia[]
- Given the Balban's main group aquatic theme, Shelinda's overall motif appears to be based on mermaid, with her armor and accessories being all shell-themed.
- Her close relationship with Captain Zahab may be based on the depiction of mermaids on ships: mermaids are thought to calm the sea and bring good luck and fortune to the sailors, similar to Shelinda who navigates Daitanix toward many planets and destroys them, bringing wealth and fortune to Zahab.
- Shelinda is the fourth villainess from the Super Sentai series without a monster or super forms, but unlike previous villainesses without monsters or super forms only she get killed after battle against Hayate and the Gingamen, the first and second are both Prince Igam and Fumin, and the third being Beauty Zonette.
- Shelinda is the first female Sentai villain to have exposed midriff.
- While other female sentai villains have appeared in a bikini in an episode, Shelinda is the only one whos main "outfit" is a bikini.
- Due to her rather seductive appearance, Shelinda was not adapted for the Power Rangers Lost Galaxy series the following year. Instead, she was replaced by the far less conspicuous Trakeena.
