Danica Harlan (Lela Loren) is a villainess from season 2 of the TV series Altered Carbon.
She is the charming and ambitious governor of the planet Harlan's World, and the daughter of the planet's founder Konrad Harlan.
Danica viewed her fathers' willingness to provide the Protectorate with the necessary alloy for Stacks as a weakness, and believed that he was ignoring a chance to become the leading political player in the Settled Worlds. At an unknown point in time, she killed him and assumed his position as Governor of Harlan's World. Danica told the people that Konrad had joined The Renouncers, a religious group who renounce wealth, the physical world and contact with friends & family, and that is why he could not be contacted by anyone. She also paid the leader of the Renouncers a large sum of money to tell this story.
She aimed to become the leading political player in the known universe by controlling the alloy shipment. She even went so far as to orchestrate a false war to drive up the price of alloy. Danica has shown herself to be intelligent and as someone with long-term plans and the ruthlessness and ambition to achieve those plans. She wished to be the leading political player in the universe- but to do so she had to murder her own father and assume his place as Governor of Harlan's World, as well as fake a war, which she was able to do without anyone suspecting.
Danica is a ruthless woman with a sadistic side, as she is shown to enjoy organising executions in the form of fights to the death that she and her rich friends can bet on. She places protagonist Takeshi Kovacs in one of these fights, and has him drugged beforehand. His opponents change their appearance to look like past friends of Takeshi (including his sister Reileen Kawahara). Takeshi manages to defeat them all though, despite being drugged and confused by their appearances.
Her ruthlessness is further shown when she has people she wants silenced tied to the back of giant fireworks and killed in the explosion. She also has no problem threatening children's lives to get what she wants.
She is killed by the vengeful alien elder who had been hunting down the people who originally founded Harlan's World. This is because they committed genocide when they arrived on the planet by killing the other alien elders. Although Danica was not alive at the time, her father was one of the founders. The alien sucks the life out of Danica and she is killed permanently with no way of resleeving.
