The Emma Peel doppelganger (Uma Thurman) is the tertiary antagonist in the 1998 movie ‘The Avengers’. She is a henchwoman for the maniacal Sir August De Wynter (Sean Connery), as well as ‘Father’ (Fiona Shaw). This nameless villainess is used to frame the real Emma Peel in being in league with a mysterious antagonist.
The doppelganger is first seen on a recording in the British Secret Service headquarters. She is seen in a sexy outfit breaking into the headquarters and stealing some information.
Later, when Emma Peel is in the mansion with winter, who has controlled the weather making it snowing, she appears to Steed wearinng fur and tries to kill him, shooting him. Luckily, he is saved by a device he has hidden under his jacket.
When Emma and Steed infiltrate De Wynter’s hideout, she, dressed in August’s black teddy bear outfit, jumps on Emma from above and tries to kill her in a catfight. However, she is unmasked and it is revealed to the viewer that there is two Emma Peels! When Steed arrives, she evades capture by jumping off the building.
When Emma and Steed are in De Wynter’s love maze, Emma falls down a trap and is captured by De Wynter. When Steed appears around the corner the villainous version knocks him out with a single punch.
Later, when Emma has been falsely detained, Father and the Doppelganger head down to her cell where they knock her out with sleeping gas. The extraordinarily strong doppelganger carries her through the snow to their ’hot air balloon’, in reality a complicated flying device. Father takes out ‘Mother’ in the snow, as her henchwoman watches gleefully.
They take Emma up in the balloon, with Father flying (a reflectively poor choice in the future). The real Emma escapes and climbs up to the top of the Hot Air Balloon. However, her Doppelganger notices and climbs up towards her... A vicious catfight ensues, with the wicked villainess attempting to shove the good girls head in the flames! She escapes, but the Doppelganger leaves her hanging on a piece of metal above the streets. Emma falls, but luckily survives without injury. However, Father accidentally crashes the balloon into the side of a tower, blowing up the balloon and destroying her and the doppelganger.
