Emily Stern, aka Lola (Scottie Thompson), was a hidden villainess from "I'm Your Boogie Man," the antepenultimate episode of Rizzoli & Isles' first season (airdate August 30, 2010).

Backstory[]

Emily Stern was the wife of James Stern, though their marriage had problems as James was accused of domestic abuse two years prior to the events of the episode. The couple was abducted by serial killer Charles Hoyt, who murdered James and kept Emily captive. As time went by, Emily became more distant regarding her husband's murder at the hands of Hoyt, and began colluding with Hoyt in his plan to go after his longtime nemesis, Jane Rizzoli.

Events[]

In the episode's events, Emily had plastic surgery and dyed her hair from blonde to brunette, while also going under the name Lola. She posed as a waitress and was served Jane and her brother Frankie at a diner, with Frankie taken in by Lola. Lola went on a date with Frankie; using him to get closer to Jane, and in the episode's climax, Jane finds Lola in her apartment cooking, with Lola claiming that Frankie went out to buy beers. However, Jane finds Frankie in the bedroom tied up and gagged, and it was at that moment that Lola pointed a gun at Jane, revealing herself as the evil Emily Stern, who was long thought to have been murdered.

Maura Isles had figured out Lola's ruse when she compared a photo of Lola with that of Emily and saw that they were the same person, with the reveal coming at the station. Meanwhile, Emily ordered Jane to handcuff herself, while proclaiming that she and Hoyt had a relationship which was more meaningful than her marriage. Jane managed to get into the head of the crazed villainess by telling her that Hoyt didn't tell Emily to kill her, doing so because Hoyt really loves Jane and not Emily. Emily accused Jane of lying and went after her, only for Frankie to take her down and knock the gun from her possession. Frankie grabbed the gun and shot Emily to death.
