Cindy Novotny was an unseen villainess mentioned in "I Thought I Knew You", episode 1.04 of Missing (airdate August 23, 2003). In the late 70s, Cindy was a member of the American Revolutionary Brotherhood (ARB), a radical anarchist group run by sociology professor Ted Banfield.
The episode's case had the team investigating the disappearance of Mike and Diane Crenshaw, with the latter being revealed as a former member of ARB who escaped arrest after a botched bank robbery. As explained by Sunny Estrada, ARB committed numerous bank robberies where they would take over the bank by holding everyone inside at gunpoint before blowing up the safe to make off with the money.
During a robbery in Chicago, however, their plan went awry when guards saw them coming and started shooting, leading to a shootout where customer Ron Hartman was shot to death by the evil Cindy. Afterwards, Cindy and Ted were caught and arrested while Diane and fellow ARB member Theresa Rasenti escaped, with Cindy and Ted each receiving a 25-year sentence. Sunny later revealed that a year prior to the episode's current events, Cindy was killed in a car crash.
