Capt. Verna Trober (Francoise Ruggieri) is a seconday antagonist in the 1965 episode "The Machines Strike Back" for the TV series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea".
Capt. Verna Trober is the assistant to Soviet Rear Admiral Halder (Roger C. Carmel), who has launched drones with nuclear warheads on them to take out New York City.
Admiral Nelson (Richard Basehart) and Seaview are able to launch counter missles to knock the nuke off course but it destroys a million acres of forest and kills three rangers. Soon, more drones are seen headed toward the U.S. Coast. Nelson calls on a friend and co-designer of the defense system, Halder to help solve the problem, not knowing that he is behind the plot.
Halder and Verna board the Seaview and subsequently helps activate and control the drones with scrambled messages from the radio shack. She also sabotages the sub.
Later, Halder announces his intention to blow up several east coast U.S. cities to blackmail his country into making him its new leader. Verna is able to imprison Capt. Crane (David Hedison) and Nelson in Halder's lab on the bottom of the sea. They escape using tools that Crane snuck aboard hidden in his jacket. They knock out the crew of the undersea base and reset one of the drones to destroy it. They then leave the base and head back to Seaview just before Halder's base is destroyed blowing up the lovely Verna.
