The Female Villains Wiki

Angela Moss was one of the secondary villainesses of the series Mr. Robot. She first started off as Elliot's childhood friend who happened to have lost her mother as well along with his father caused by E Corp's negligence. She wanted to get justice for her mother's death, but as the series progresses, she lets power and greed get the better of her due to E Corp and Whiterose corrupting her and her lust for power and vengeance increases, to the point she spitefully betrays both Elliot and Darlene and psychologically tortures the latter for Stage 2 and meddles in his plans because she believes her methods are better than his, exposing her to be no better than the corrupt villains, as she becomes worse than them.

Storyline[]

Angela was introduced as Elliot and Darlene's childhood friend, sharing the loss of their parents caused by E Corp with them.

We first see her discussing something with Gideon before she and Elliot leave the room as she asks him about why Elliot didn't come to her birthday party, Elliot responds that he had some work, where in reality he is a vigilante hacker who took down a child pornography ringleader earlier that night. As they talk, they are interrupted by Angela's boyfriend Ollie, which causes Elliot to leave as he has animosity towards him, especially due to the fact that Ollie is a horrible person who cheats on Angela daily.

Later at night, Angela calls Elliot for help when a hack occurs at All Safe where Elliot and Gideon go elsewhere to rectify the issue. When Elliot returns, Angela is waiting for him outside of his apartment to watch their favourite movie Back To The Future with him, but it doesn't happen when she sees Shayla, his neighbour and drug supplier, on his bed after a one night stand.

Later, during a meeting related to E Corp about the hack, CTO Terry Colby has her removed from the meeting simply because he doesn't like a woman explaining things to him, despite Elliot's pleas to let her stay. This offends Angela and decides to ignore Elliot for defending her. She then chastises him for it and tells him to let her lose, showing that she sees letting others help or defend her as a mark of a coward.

She then meets Elliot outside of the office with Ollie, but he abruptly leaves and says he has a dog to take care of, which is news to Angela. Back in the apartment, Angela tells Ollie that she is concerned about Elliot's recent behaviour and well-being, unbeknownst to her, Ollie ended up getting hacked because of the CD he bought from Darlene's boyfriend Cisco, who threatened to expose his infidelity and has Angela and her dad's account compromised if he doesn't use it on All Safe.

Later, Elliot and Angela meet at Gideon's dinner party, they discuss about their childhood memories before they're interrupted by the news of the Washington Township leak updates. This causes both of them to leave as Angela informs them that their parents had died because of it.

Later at Angela and Ollie's apartment, Ollie finally confesses to his infidelity to Angela without taking full responsibility for it and tells her about the CD Hack. The next day, Angela goes to Elliot's apartment for help but finds Shayla their instead, who offers to take her for a stroll and later a nightclub where she says she should worry about herself instead of worrying about others. Angela then goes to All Safe and goes through with the CD hack to sabotage All Safe just to spite Ollie for cheating on her. She then breaks up with him and moves back in with her father. Later at night, she finds out that her father is in debt from paying for her mother's medical bills.

She then goes to her lawyer Antara Nayar to reopen the lawsuit against E Corp. She asks Elliot for advice and he guides her in a right path, saying that she should trust herself because he knows she will do what's right. She goes to Colby's house but he kicks her out. Through her lawyer, she sets a meeting with Colby and makes a deal with him to lie that she broke the chain of custody that incriminated him only if he confesses his role in the Washington Township Leak, despite Gideon's warnings that it could lead to permanent damage. Colby then confesses to covering up the incident with two other executives.

Later, Elliot found out about the blackmail and asked what was going on. Angela called him out for acting different for weeks and shutting her out when she needed him the most, she ends it by saying she misses the days they were close.

Later, we see a first glimpse of Angela's jealousy towards Elliot when Darlene calls her to help look for Elliot when he has a breakdown after finding out Darlene is his sister and he had gaps in his life he forgot about. At the museum, Angela makes a snide remark at Darlene that it's because of her he got worse since she returned, just to spite her and leaves her to be on her own to find Elliot, foreshadowing her spiteful nature later on in the series.

Angela then reunites with Darlene to look for him in the old Alderson's house and find him near his father's graveyard having a breakdown realising Mr. Robot was his split personality and he has DID. Angela drops him off to the train station saying that she envies him because she wishes she could've spoken to her mother like him.

Back at home, Colby is fascinated by Angela's determination and wit and offers her a job at E Corp.

3 days later, after the 5/9 hack, Angela has accepted her job as am assistant. But the day gets worse when one of the executives kills himself on Live TV and his blood falls on Angela's shoes since she went to him to calm him down. After Phillip Price gives her money to buy new shoes, Angela snarls at the shoe salesman for insulting her for working at E Corp, while it can be justified that she was stressed out from seeing a man kill himself in front of her, this also foreshadows her true colours in the series where she won't take it well when someone calls her out for something she did wrong or made a mistake, which makes her feel like they're wounding her pride and ego.

A month later, Angela has immersed herself in the corporate world at E Corp and has entirely dropped her lawsuit against them, because she felt like she is valued her, which also exposes the fact she secretly cares about having power to become a leader everyone would bow down to and is easily swayed by the greed and profit that is provided to her, showing that she had no altruism in her and is willing to betray her morals for anything that will benefit her. Price invites her to a dinner with two executives and exposes them as the ones who were responsible for covering up the leak. She passes this information to her lawyer and realises Price was using this as a leverage.

Later, Darlene breaks into her expensive apartment to ask for help with a femtocell hack against the FBI who set up a base at the E Corp building. She refuses but after Ollie tries to sell her out to the FBI regarding Gideon's murder, she agrees to join. Angela met Elliot in prison, who told her that the reason why he hasn't talked to her for days is because he wanted to better himself and suppress and control Mr. Robot so that she'd safe with him. He even advised her that it's best she doesn't accept Darlene's offer to help with the femtocell hack against the FBI because she would put herself at risk and she would end up in further danger and tells her he'll find another way to do it, but Angela still joins anyways.

Angela and Darlene do the femtocell hack, but after that, she is approached by Dom as to why she moved from All Safe to E Corp and reminds her she isn't what she is trying to be, advising her to be a right person.

When Darlene offers to explain why they created fsociety, one of the signs of Angela valuing her pride and ego is shown when she snides at her that she always thought she and Elliot were smarter than her, showing that she hates it when people undermine her which makes her think Elliot and Darlene didn't involve her in their plan because she wasn't smart enough for them, despite the fact Elliot told her earlier that it was because he didn't want to risk her safety.

She then cuts contact with her father when he calls her out for settling provisions with the family members of the Washington Township victims and asks to be moved to the Risk Management division.

Later, at a bar, Dom's mole tries to seduce Angela but she rejects him. She then meets with her father's friend, who chastises her for letting E Corp's influence get to her head, since they were the ones who caused the death of her mother. Angela retaliates by insulting his job as a plumber and brags that she is a successful 27-year-old with a six figure sum earned from working at the biggest conglomerate, which shows that she cared more about power, profit and desire to have others kneel to her, using her mother's death as an excuse.

Later, she hacks into Joseph Green with the rubber ducky Mobley gave her to get evidence on the Washington Township leak. She gives this to a nuclear testing official, who makes her wait but when she asks if she works for E Corp, she leaves.

After Dom barges into her apartment to interrogate her, Angela frantically texts Elliot to meet her in the subway and asks him why did he start fsociety, which he also doesn't know since Mr. Robot took over. She tells him that there is no way they will be able to take down E Corp and decides to confess her part in the femtocell hack to the FBI. She even reminds him that there are a few gaps in his memory, since she remembers finding him at the Queens Museum as a child having a breakdown and tells him not to trust Mr. Robot. They later share a kiss before he leaves.

But Angela ends up being abducted from the subway to be taken to Whiterose, who first tests her and then further corrupts her into joining her cause by showing her something, claiming this will bring back her mother and Elliot's father back to life. Seduced by this new path that will guarantee her full power and vengeance, Angela finally cuts off contact with her lawyer.

Not only that but Angela even ends up letting her jealousy and envy towards Elliot being the Chosen One get the better off her to the point she decides to psychologically abuse him for Stage 2 by releasing Mr. Robot. While it's clear that Tyrell and Angela could've been the ones to do it themselves, Angela decided to mentally torture Elliot for this just to spite him for "undermining" her.

She puts on a friendly and nice facade around Elliot, but reveals her cruel and arrogant side when around Mr. Robot and Tyrell. It's even clear that she only cares about herself and her feelings when Mr. Robot chides her for using Elliot, to which she responds in a careless manner, before she reveals that the reason of this was what Whiterose showed her, her tone and her calmness in telling Mr. Robot her motivation shows that she has stopped caring about the damage her actions will cause and has turned into a vengeance-obsessed maniac who is a danger to others and herself.

This is proven right when she finds out Elliot has been diverting the paper records to other 71 buildings and retaliates by drugging and trapping him in her apartment and removing him from E Corp.

On the day of Stage 2, Angela is satisfied when Elliot is kicked out of E Corp and she starts her task of hacking into the E Corp database to get access to destroy the buildings. Angela realises what she has made herself complicit into. But when Elliot confronts her and calls her out for using him for Stage 2, Angela decides to blame him for the situation and spitefully hurt him by mocking him for his mental health struggle, just to absolve herself of any guilt, thinking that if Elliot was the one who started all this, why should she be the one to live with the guilt. Elliot tries to warn her that Whiterose lied to her and innocent people will die because of it. This causes Angela to cut him out of her life for good, declaring that she never wants to see him again, disappointed that in her eyes, Elliot wasn't the person she thought he was.

Later at the subway on her way back home, she is nearly attacked by a mugger who nearly kills her. The old ladies who saw this happen are unnerved at Angela reacting non chalantly to the situation, saying that she would've died.

Angela is later confronted by Darlene for screwing her and Elliot over, even after everything they did for her. Angela disregards her and looks down on her, gaslighting her into believing she is doing it for them and they should thank her for it, accusing Darlene of being ungrateful. Darlene tries to probe her into confessing why she helped Whiterose for Stage 2, saying that all of this will haunt her for the rest of her life and gives her another chance before she turns her to the FBI. An angered Angela dares Darlene to go ahead and turn her in because she doesn't care since she is doing the "right thing", which implies that she is threatening to sell her and Elliot out as the real masterminds for Stage 2 to save herself.

Until they find out that it happened in the 71 buildings, killing over 4000 E Corp Employees. This causes Angela to go insane since she was the one who let it happen by giving the Dark Army access to those buildings. She tries to justify it to Darlene by rewinding the news report, claiming she will bring them back to life if she does this.

3 weeks later, she has also refused to speak to Elliot as she still sticks by what she said to him earlier, since she is in denial that he was right all along. She has even damaged and cluttered her apartment by painting it black, covering her furniture in plastic and pasting the walls with photos of the victims, wanting to recreate the day she met Whiterose, hoping that what she said to her is true.

Elliot visits her in hopes of rekindling his relationship with her talking about the time they wanted to go on a road trip as kids. But all of it is ruined when Angela visits him to convince him further about Whiterose's plan, she is enraged when she sees Leon in his apartment, thinking he was listening to their conversation when in reality he was here to pick up Elliot for a meeting with the Dark Army. This brings back her strong hatred for Elliot when she accuses him of tricking her so that he could stop Whiterose and this time, her hatred is permanent. She finally abandons and breaks ties with Elliot for good, that too for something he had nothing to do with.

She goes to the streets waiting to be picked up by Whiterose by is picked up by Price's men, but she still thinks it's Whiterose who wants her.

Angela asks to see Whiterose since she still believes she is her favourite disciple. But instead Price meets her and confesses to her that he is her real father and that what Whiterose showed her was just a fantasy she instilled in her. Angela finally breaks down and admits her guilt in being complicit in the deaths of thousands to achieve Whiterose's goal, claiming that Whiterose was going to bring her mother back if she did this.

Price convinced her to accept her mistakes and find a way to live with what she did, offering her a chance at redemption and making up to the people she hurt in her rampage. Unfortunately, Angela was shown to be completely beyond reasoning as she still believed in the machine. She rejected her chance at redemption and stubbornly chose to go after Whiterose by herself using her old tricks instead, which lead to her current state in the first place.

But then Whiterose finds out about this and decides to have her executed. Angela decides to let herself die, because she would rather die as a prideful person and with dignity rather than beg as a coward. She didn't even regret abandoning the people who truly cared about her, namely Elliot, Darlene and her adoptive father. The only thing she regretted was not showing her skills and power off one last time. This could also partially be because that since she will die, this means that Whiterose will go forward with her machine and bring both her and her mother back to life.

So in conclusion, Angela died caring about her pride, power, ego, vengeance and obsession to resurrect her mother, all alone. What's worse is that, nobody, except Elliot, Darlene and Price, knowing why she fell off the face of the earth.

Personality[]

Angela was at first seemed to be a kind woman who cares about others well being. But as the series progresses, we see that she is a complete opposite and she is actually a woman who cares about her ego and pride. She wasn't even able to let go of her mother's death caused by E Corp and wanted to bring justice to them. But unfortunately, this desire for justice led her to a dark path where she let the greed and power get the better of her where she used her mother's death as an excuse for her actions, to the point she ended up playing the victim card, especially because of Whiterose corrupting her.

She also values her pride and ego. It is shown that she doesn't even take it well whenever someone tries to help her or defend her, since she believes she will be seen as a coward if that happens or stand criticism from anyone, especially a man, who rightfully calls her out for working at E Corp and letting them corrupt her, since that same company killed her mother. Which also exposes that there are times she uses her mother's death as an excuse for her drive to be a powerful leader, which made us question what her morals and goals were.

She turned out to be a woman who, as a result of being stepped on by others, desired to be a powerful leader everyone would bow down to, which showed the makings of a tyrant.

She was also shown to grow jealous of Elliot being the Chosen One, because she felt that she was the one who had the status, privilege and knowledge of the corporate world like E Corp and yet Elliot was the one chosen, despite the fact he was low-level and wasn't in the same status as her. She let this jealousy get the better off her that she decided to get Elliot down to her level by psychologically abusing him for Stage 2.

She was even shown to resent being Elliot and Darlene's friend because of this. It showed that she stopped caring for what they've been through their whole life, and disregarding their trauma of being abused by their parents, and instead made the whole thing about herself. While losing her mom was traumatic, Angela acted like that she was the one who had it worse than Elliot and Darlene.

She was even revealed to be a foil to Elliot, as shown in their arcs. While Elliot was shown to be a more down-to-earth, wiser and kinder person who was selfless in helping others and wanting to make sure that they don't go through the same pain and trauma as he did in the past and isn't willing to hurt innocents in his pursuit to take down E Corp and. later the Dark Army, Angela at first seemed kind on the surface but turned out to have only care about herself and her self-satisfaction and didn't care about helping others but rather gaining power and profit for herself.

And while Elliot and Darlene longed for normalcy in their lives, Angela was willing to give it all up. And it is even shown in Elliot's final speech to Whiterose that showed that he was always grateful for the people in his life who loved him and never left him behind no matter how much he pushed them away and expressed that his love and care for them and humanity is the reason why he wanted to save the world. While Angela had let power and vengeance get to her head, to the point she had abandoned and cut off the people who loved and cared for her from her life in her pursuit to be a powerful leader, showing she had no love and kindness for others, because of which she intentionally hurt the people who cared about her just to achieve her goals, which she didn't have any remorse about anymore.

And even worse, she was the only person who gave up on Elliot completely.

All of her reckless and selfish actions ended up causing her to die alone by the Dark Army, finally reuniting with her mother, but not in the way she wanted.
