Amy Hughes is the main antagonist of the 2016 Freeform Series, Dead of Summer.
History[]
Amy's first victims were her family. In 1980, Amy was jealous of the favoritism her parents gave to her brother. In response, Amy murdered her family with carbon monoxide poisoning by leaving the car engine running.
Nine years later, Amy takes up a camp counselor position at Camp Silverlake after she murders her friend Margo while making it look like an accident. At the camp, Amy's first victim was Dave the Gardener. Wearing a mask and a black cloak, Amy murders him by drowning him, thus using is body to mark the first spot on the pentagram in resurrecting Malphus. Her second victim was Blotter, who was fired from the counselor position after Alex put LSD in his drink. Amy marked the second spot on the pentagram by taking an axe to his head.
Half way through the season, one of the other counselors, Joel has a vision of Holyoke warning him that if he doesn't kill Amy, someone else is going to die. This came to pass when Amy marked the third spot on the pentagram by shoving Crickett into a bear trap.
Amy willingly gave herself to the cult, but made everyone believe she was the victim of "kidnapping". After Detective Garrett Sykes rescued her, Jessie received a vision during the eclipse from Cricket telling her to put Holyoke's bones into the river. Fearing that Amy might be possessed, Sykes and Jessie go to find the bones. After dumping them in the lake, they receive a vision about how Holyoke was framed by Malphas's cult. They proceed to rescue Amy from Malphas's control, even stopping Amy from killing Alex at the final spot of the pentagram. However, when Joel attempts to talk to Amy, she stabs him in the neck with his knife.
Brought back to his cabin, Amy is tied up in order for a seance to be performed. After Jessie was rescued from the holy water, Amy asked Malphas to repossess her while her friends initially believe she is doing CPR.Unbeknownst to the surviving counselors, Amy wanted to be possessed by Malphas. She murders Deb and Margo's friend who came to warn Deb about Amy. Amy then sabotaged the recording of Holyoke playing the tune to defeat Malphas and then revealed her intentions to her former friends.
Stalking Jessie in the camp to extinguish the remnants of Holyoke's light that's inside of her, Amy taunts her and her friends, murdering both Alex and Sykes along the way. She's only defeated when Syke's ghost plays a recording of Holyoke's song that Joel managed to record on his camera. This resulted in Malphas being defeated for good and Jessie killed Amy with her own axe.
Personality[]
When she's first introduced to both the audience and the other characters, Amy is shown to be a kind a caring person. Despite being the new girl, she came across as friendly and as someone who genuinely wanted to make friends. There were moments where she even displayed concern for her friends.
This, however, was an act to have the other counselors gain her trust. Truth is, Amy was a serial killer who used her friend's trust to hide her true intentions, summoning Malphas so that she could use his powers to destroy the world. This is proved during the flashback shown in Home, Sweet, Home when it's revealed that Amy murdered Margo so that she can take her place at the Camp Stillwater.
