Agnes Wheatley (The Vault of Horror)

Agnes Wheatley is the primary antagonist of "Together They Lie!", the first story contained within the 1953 comic book "The Vault of Horror #33".

Agnes Wheatley was a housekeeper employed by Alex Horton. One night, she and Horton's lawyer, Mitch Fairchild, secretly murder Alex's wife Sylvia by tying her up, dragging her to the boat-house, and setting it on fire. Deceptively, Agnes comforts the unknowing Alex long after the murder, but his grief stubbornly remains. Fed up with waiting, Agnes tells him that his wife was having an affair with Mitch and that he shouldn't devote another moment of sadness towards her. Devastated to hear that his wife had been cheating on him all this time, Alex makes Agnes the sole beneficiary of his wealth and estate, and then commits suicide.

Overjoyed that their evil plan was a success, Agnes and Mitch gloat in the cemetery, but over the course of six months, their words penetrate the brain of the corpse. One night, a terrible storm manages to push Alex's dead body up through the mud to the surface, and he becomes reanimated as a zombie. The story ends with Alex trudging up towards his mansion and vengefully murdering both Agnes and Mitch.
